Cornerstone Bible Church Counseling Ministry provides hundreds of hours of free Biblical counseling each year to those seeking God’s answers to the questions and problems in their lives. God’s Word gives us answers and hope!
Are there answers to my problems?
In today’s incredibly complex world, God’s practical counsel is desperately needed. There is tremendous hope in the fact that God has provided His Word, the Bible, to give answers to life’s problems and questions. God says that He has provided everything necessary for a person to know Him and to live in a way that pleases Him. God promises to help and bless those who obey His instructions in the Bible. Therefore, the one who seeks after and follows God’s answers for life can have great hope, contentment, and direction to handle all the pressures of life.
What kind of counseling is offered?
Counseling is made available to help with any problems you may be facing – marriage, parenting, addictions, disorders, fears, anger, grief, depression, anxiety, etc. Our counseling approach is based upon the truths of the Bible. Since God has fully provided His answers to all of life’s problems in the Bible, it is superior to any other source of counsel. It is our goal, therefore, to skillfully and practically bring God’s wisdom to bear upon the difficulties you are facing.
Who are the counselors?
The counseling staff here at CBC consists of our pastor, elders, and other qualified individuals who are trained in Biblical counseling.
(Note: This training is through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, (ACBC) and is NOT certified with the State of Washington.)
What does counseling cost?
It is our desire that counseling be available to anyone who needs it. This is why CBC is committed to not charging for the counseling they offer. The only cost to consider will be for books and other required materials. (Usually an estimate of $25.) The counseling sessions themselves are provided at no additional cost.
Who can come for counseling?
CBC offers counseling for individuals and couples. One does not need to be a regular attender or member of Cornerstone Bible Church to receive counseling. However, in instances where a waiting list becomes necessary, members of CBC will be given preference.
“There were those who lived in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in misery and chains, because they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High…then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands apart.“
So Where Do I Begin?
You can begin by filling out the Personal Data Inventory. For minors please fill out the CBC PDI for Minors. You can either email it to us, or drop it off at the church. Please feel free to call out office with any questions you might have about any part of this process!
Tips for filling out a PDI:
Open the PDI using the link above and then download it. Save it to your computer desktop.
Once saved to your desktop, you can fill out the PDI digitally. If you don't have this option, feel free to print it out.
Save it when you’re finished or it won’t hold the changes!
Email the digital copy in to our office when you are done. If you printed it out, you can either scan it and email us a copy or mail it to us using the address provided on our Contact page.
What Should I Expect?
Counseling sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis with your counselor. The day and time might vary depending on what they have available. Most counseling sessions take between 1 to 1.5 hours. Here’s what you can expect during that time:
Privacy and Care
Everyone on the CBC staff will care for you and treat you with respect. Everything will be held in strict confidence except where, in the counselor’s judgment, there is a Biblical requirement to involve others (e.g. criminal activity).
Encouragement towards Christ-likeness
It is the goal of our Biblical counselors to encourage you in your successes and exhort you to think and behave in a way that pleases Jesus Christ.
You will be assigned homework to take home with you between your weekly counseling sessions. The assignments are meant to encourage lasting change, and will also help to demonstrate your level of commitment and involvement in the counseling process.
Give Us Some Time
Habits are not developed overnight, and new habits will take time to develop. In most cases, we ask individuals to commit to regular counseling appointments for a period of 3 to 4 months.
What Will My Counselor Expect of Me?
Your counselor will expect at least four things from you
You will need to have a willingness to grow and change.
You will need to attend each week’s counseling session.
You will need to complete all your homework assignments between counseling sessions.
You will need to be attending church one time a week with at least 2 of those times being at Cornerstone Bible Church.
